The Commission for Social Care Inspection is the new, independent public body set up to regulate social care services throughout England. From 1st April 2004 the CSCI took over responsibility from the NCSC who had responsibility for the registration and inspection of services - replacing the old system of inspection by local authority and health authority inspection units.
