"Working Therapeutically with Children and Young People"
|
Our aims are to create as nearly as possible a happy “family type” life for the children in our care, to help them to come to terms with past experiences, and develop a positive outlook for their future, find personal direction, help them to achieve personal goals and develop their potential to the full.
We encourage all of the children to take part in the daily tasks and teach them to be caring and thoughtful towards each other.

Lynstead House is our main residential unit established over ten years ago to meet the needs of children under the age of twelve years of age on admission for medium to long term placements.
We cater for up to ten children who have been emotionally, physically or sexually abused we will work with them to overcome their past problems to help them face the future with certainty.
|
Lynstead House is a large detached Victorian property set in very large grounds. Within the grounds there is an art room where the young people can be creative, also there is a workshop where they can make small items made from wood etc.
In keeping with our policy of providing “normal” family surroundings all our rooms are decorated to high standards. The picture on the right is of the lounge which has just been redecorated. The room is large and airy with modern furniture and TV and video. As you can see there are books both fictional and fact based which can be used to help with homework.

Cygnet House is a medium sized semi-detached house, situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in Deal. It is warmly decorated and furnished, creating a comfortable family home.
Cygnet House can care for up to three children ranging from five to fifteen years old on admission, however we usually take children under the age of twelve, but can take children younger than five if they are part of a sibling group. Each child is recognised as an individual with different needs and priorities, we take as much time as is needed with each child, giving them security and space and ensuring them of our help and support.

Colby House is situated in a residential area of the seaside town of Margate. It is a large terraced house. It is a similar kind to others in the same road. It has an appearance of being what it is, a generously proportioned family home, and has nothing on the outside or for that matter on the inside to suggest it is in any way institutionalised.
Colby House has three light and airy bedrooms for young people each with its own wash hand basin, in addition to bathroom and toilet facilities. There is a large dining room in which all members of the household eat their meals together adding to the feeling of belonging to a family. There is a large lounge for watching T.V. and a slightly smaller games room.

We offer care to up to three young people who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused, young people with learning and physical difficulties from 12 to 16 years old on admission. Each young person is treated an individual with different needs and priorities, and we take as much time as is needed for each young person, giving them the space with security and ensuring them of our love, help and support.
By only taking three young people at any time at Colby House helps them to settle in quickly and comfortably, making all of the young people feel cared for, part of a family group, and encouraging self development within boundaries of a family home in a atmosphere of security and trust.

Whitecliff House admits young people between the ages of 12 – 16 years old on admission unless they are part of a sibling group
in which case a younger child may be able to go to one of our other homes.
All our bedrooms are single rooms, thereby giving them the individual space that young people need. This helps us to
meet both the needs and wishes of the young people, and assist when desirable in becoming accustomed to preparation for moving on to independence, helping them to be receptive to the needs of others as well as their own.

Whitecliff House is approximately 1 mile from the town centre and the harbour. The high street is 10 minutes walk away, and Margate, Canterbury and Deal are all within easy reach. There are many local facilities for additional recreation such as swimming, sailing, fishing, horse riding, cinemas and various sports complexes.
The young people are encouraged to use the kitchen to cook and clean up after themselves in order to teach them the basic living skills for when they move on to independence. They also manage their own pocket money and clothing allowances. This helps prepare them for the outside world, and comfortably take their place in the community, ensuring that they know we provide good aftercare when they leave Whitecliff House. They then feel secure and confident to become independent. |
